How do you dine?

When I look back at my childhood memories I remember that as a family we ate dinner. What I mean is that we 9 times out of 10 would all sit down at the dinning room table and eat together. I know this must sound completely taboo. I should also say that my parents have also been married 25+ years and that is also not really heard of now-a-days.

I have two reasons that I am randomly talking about my dining plans.
#1- Our family of 3 does NOT sit down and eat a meal together. Well let me take that back we may sit down(all together) once a week to eat. I feel that this is wrong and that I should change this habit. You know that commercial on tv that says a family that dines together will have kids that stay out of trouble. I feel that to a point this is very true. I think that if you have at least one meal together with no distractions that provides an outlet for conversation and dream sharing.

DH's family did not have meals together often at all. Hubby's dad works off shore and mom worked long hours so I would say the only time they dined together was on the weekends or holidays. This makes me sad but he is not warped because of it either.
Just a little food for thought? Do you dine at your kitchen tables?

#2- My second reason for the random post is that I want to inform you that I will be doing another giveaway with CSN Stores. I am very excited! CSN Stores has 200+ stores with everything imaginable.

My mother-in-law has a dining room and a breakfast nook. I think that is amazing. You must think I am a nerd but I have never had a breakfast nook! When I think of my breakfast nook this is what I think about!

  1. I would LOVE a breakfast nook!!

My hubby works long hours and Ish is usually asleep before he gets home, but me and Ish eat dinner with my parents and sister every night, so even though Dada isn't there it's still a family dinner!

  2. We eat at the table. Ok let me not lie: my DH and I eat at the table, our 3 yr old daughter takes a bite, gets down, runs around, comes back for another bite, you get the idea. It's important to me that we eat as a family around the table for dinner. When I was a kid we ate at the table, too, until I was into my late teens and we all got too busy to eat together.

My parents have been married for 39 years now and I've been married for 17 years :) There's a few of us lifetimers left :)

  3. The nook is so cute! We don't dine as often as I like together because we work opposite shifts so we don't do daycare. So we dine together Thursday nights and the weekends. :-(

  4. When we were growing up we had an old diner booth in our kitchen. It was the coolest thing ever! It made meals fun for the kids...that nook is the same theory...

  5. Funny your blogging about this...I am SO embarrassed to admit that for the last 4 1/2 years (since my son has been born) we MAY have eaten at our kitchen table 20some times, and that's it! I hate it, but I always find us "too busy" to sit down, so we eat in the family room (in front of the TV, UGH!!!) or eat while doing a a million and one other things. I decided that come September 1st I would make it my goal for us to sit at the kitchen table for dinner, at least Sunday-Thursday. Although it's a challenge and you would think that we are asking our son to rip off his own arm ;) when I tell him we are eating at the table, we have done it. It gives us time to talk and reconnect. After a long day, I want nothing more then to sit on the couch and relax, but like you said, families that eat together, stay together! :)

  6. Hey Kayla! I have been trying to eat at the table more frequently, but in reality it doesn't happen very often. Alexis gets plenty of one on one attention from both mommy and daddy (daddy gets the bedtime routine), and we do everything together as a family. Seriously, I have left her with a babysitter maybe twice other than daycare when I was in college. So I am not worried about her turning into a convict! LOL! Besides, that girl talks my head off all day long, by dinner time I need some peace and quiet!

  7. Hi Kayla!

When I grew up we ate every meal at the table, and on Sundays all of my aunts, uncles and cousins would have dinner at my grandmothers. It was a wonderful way to grow up, and we're all still very close even after having our own kids.

With my own family we ate at the table when the kids grew up, but then when they were teens we started to do the 70s thing and ate in front of the TV on trays.

Now that we're in our new house we're back to eating at the table, and the ones who left home eat Sunday dinner with us! Isn't interesting how life can go full circle?

PS I adore the stick drawing of your family with your signature. So cute! Well done.

  8. Growing up in my family we always ate at the dinner table together. It didn't matter who was home for dinner or not; if you were home, you ate at the dinner table.

Being one of three siblings we also rotated setup and cleanup. One of us set the table, another cleared the table and the last washed whatever didn't go into the dishwasher. I really wouldn't want to do this any other way with my family if I could. Even take out food or fast food was taken back to the kitchen table to be eaten together as a family.
