Make a Splash....Read- Bring Daddy to the Library

Potato and I decided that daddy needed to come and see what else we do with our Saturdays. We brought DH to the Public Library and he was impressed! Each day DH and I fight over who gets to read to Potato. Its really funny since he reads in voices and it cracks me up. I know that all our bonding and persistence is working because Potato's vocabulary is growing.

This past week we have been very busy but we did read:
  1. Worry Bear by Charlotte Dematons
  2. Save the Egg-Wonder Pets
  3. Fred and Ted Like to Fly by Peter Eastman
  4. Green Eggs and Ham by Dr Seuss--my favorite!
  5. Veronica by Roger Duvoisin
  6. Always in Trouble by Corinne Demas
  7. Olivia's Opposites by Ian Falconer
  8. Where are the dogsharks
  9. The Cat in the Hat by Dr Seuss--another one of my favorites
  10. Baby signs by Joy Allen
  11. In the Tall, Tall Grass by Denise Fleming
  12. The Lady with the Alligator purse--Every girl should remember this!
  13. Chicken, Pig, Cow on the Move by Ruth Ohi-- Very sweet book
  14. Froggy Learns to Swim by Jonathan London

Build and Grow-Picture Frame

As you can see we are adding more and more people to our Build and Grow family. It was so much fun and Potato made a new friend, Kelon. Fumy, Kelon's mommy works with Potato's Aunt Sammy and well she was chomping at the bit to bring her 2 year old to this FREE even that Lowes puts on twice a month. Little Buck is getting more and more patient with each build and was all smiles. Potato hit daddy a few times with the hammer but I guess its all in the learning process. DH is really enjoying these Saturday mornings with his son and it makes me happy to watch.

The build was a Picture Frame and it was perfect. We had to try a couple times but we finally put it together the right way and Potato was proud.

June 26th they are building a Monster Truck! Please do your baby/babies, girl/boy, a favor and bring them. Wonderful bonding time and its FREE!

I would download all the videos but they really take way too long so here are the links. I hope you enjoy.

Kids Workshop @ Home Depot-Soccer Game

Ok so we have been attending Lowe's Build and Grow workshop but this weekend they did not have one. I was in search of something to do with Potato and I heard from a friend that Home Depot had a building program as well. It's called Kids Workshop.

I have to be honest when I say I was not impressed. Their set-up was not what I expected. They had tall tables and big people chairs. At Lowe's everything is very low to the ground so Potato can stand and work on the project freely. I had to hold him the whole time and he really was uncomfortable and it kept him from working on it himself. I guess it was geared to the older age group but they can have several options of seating.

Then when I requested our free goggles and apron the lazy work shop captain said "Oh I haven't had that stuff for a while." I guess I must have had a bitchy look on my face because I was pissed. I knows it free and I really shouldn't complain but hey its call good customer service and well she could have lied and said they were on order and I would have been satisfied. She failed so now I will be calling Monday morning and talking to a manager.

Lesson: Don't piss off the Momma Bear!

Ok so besides that I was really excited that my dad joined us on the build. To bad he did not know what he was getting himself into! You would think that three adults armed with instructions could build these t-tiny projects no problem. Wrong! Including each group around us we all were ripping the projects apart several times because we hammered or glued something in the wrong spot or direction. It was pretty hilarious actually. My dad would just shake his head and pull the boys projects apart and start over. He was such a trooper! I hope he comes with us again....

Instead of a badge they gave them a pin; which will be easier for me because I can just stick it on their Lowe's apron. I still have 3 badges to sew from last Saturdays build. I love it though!

Here are a few pictures from our adventure today. After the build Potato and I hit the library again and took home about 30 books. I'm not kidding! We read so much I don't want to run out before Saturday.

Make a Splash....Read!

Saturday I finally took Potato to our newest local library. Its amazing! I can't tell you the last time I had a library card. Well now its very important that I have one because I don't have disposable funds to buy books and we read entirely too much.

I signed us up for a card and let Potato loose in the huge children's section(which is have of the library) and he picked what seemed like 20 books. I even sat on the floor with him and read a few because he just wasn't having it that we had to wait until we got home to read. I know that all of the stories are make him progress mentally and well I love to see him oooh and ahhh while pointing at everything on the pages.

They are having a summer reading program and mommy and daddy need to read at least 10 minutes a day to him and when we get to 320 minutes we get a prize and 640 a better prize. We keep track by bubbling in our "Lets make a Splash" worksheet. So far we have 4 bubbles. Each bubble is worth 10 minutes.

I plan on going once a week to swap out books for Potato. I really love that this can be something that Clayton and I can share. This Saturday the Library is having a Zoo on Wheels show and I really can't wait to see what animals they bring. They will also be having a story telling time that we plan to attend. Pictures to come.

PS Lots of exciting things will be happening in the next 4 days so make sure to tune in!
